Sasana International School opened in 2020 in Bandar Tasik Puteri, Rawang, as the first Waldorf (Steiner) international school in Malaysia. The Waldorf approach teaches academic subjects through artistic and practical activities in equal measure, balancing intellectual development with creative and physical work. The school covers Kindergarten through Year 12.

A new purpose-built campus is planned for 2026, designed specifically to support the Waldorf curriculum with dedicated spaces for arts studios, music rooms, gardens, and outdoor learning areas. The current campus operates from shophouse premises in the Pinggiran Lembah Hijau neighbourhood.

Curriculum at Sasana International School

The Waldorf curriculum at Sasana follows the developmental stages outlined by Rudolf Steiner. In the Kindergarten years, learning happens through creative play, storytelling, and sensory activities rather than formal instruction. Children engage with nature, baking, painting, and seasonal festivals.

From Year 1, academic subjects are introduced through main lesson blocks. Each block runs for three to four weeks and immerses students in a single subject before rotating. English, Mathematics, Science, History, and Geography are taught alongside Eurythmy (a movement art unique to Waldorf schools), drama, music, handwork (knitting, woodwork, sewing), and gardening. There are no formal examinations in the lower years; teachers assess progress through observation, student portfolios, and narrative reports.

Upper secondary students prepare for external qualifications that allow university entry. The school offers a pathway to international recognition while maintaining the Waldorf philosophy of balanced development.

Fees at Sasana International School

Admissions at Sasana International School

Sasana accepts applications throughout the year for Kindergarten through Year 12. The admissions process involves a family interview and a trial day where the child participates in regular classroom activities. Previous school records are reviewed, but Sasana does not use formal entrance examinations, consistent with the Waldorf philosophy of assessing each child’s readiness holistically.

Families interested in the Waldorf approach but unfamiliar with it are encouraged to attend an open day or arrange a campus visit to observe lessons before applying.
