The Japanese School of Kuala Lumpur (JSKL) was founded in 1966, making it one of the oldest expatriate schools in Malaysia with nearly six decades of operation. The school serves the Japanese community in Greater Kuala Lumpur, providing continuity with the Japanese education system for families on overseas assignments.

JSKL enrols approximately 777 students across kindergarten, elementary (grades 1 to 6), and junior high (grades 7 to 9). The school does not extend to senior high school, so families with older students typically transition to other options or return to Japan. The campus is located in the Saujana Resort area of Shah Alam, a quiet enclave on the western side of the Klang Valley.
