About Yayasan Sarawak International Secondary School Sibu
YSISS Sibu opened its doors on 1 October 2025, becoming the second campus in the Yayasan Sarawak education network after the flagship Kuching campus that launched in March 2024. The Sibu campus sits in the Sungai Merah district and enrolled 94 students in its inaugural cohort across 9 classrooms, each capped at 25 students. The campus infrastructure is built for growth: 20 classrooms, dedicated science laboratories, a canteen, surau, headmaster and teacher quarters, and a 500-student hostel.
The location in Sibu is strategic. Sibu is the largest town in central Sarawak and the gateway to the Rajang Basin, the state’s largest river system. Families in inland towns like Kapit, Song and Kanowit have historically had to send children to Kuching or West Malaysia for international education. The YSISS Sibu campus, with its boarding hostel, brings Cambridge-accredited schooling within reach of central Sarawak for the first time.
Curriculum at Yayasan Sarawak International Secondary School Sibu
YSISS Sibu follows the same Cambridge IGCSE programme as the Kuching campus, delivered in English with Bahasa Melayu as a compulsory subject. The school holds Cambridge International accreditation, ensuring that IGCSE examinations are administered to the same global standard as any other Cambridge centre worldwide.
The CARE values framework (Character, Achievement, Responsibility, Excellence) underpins the academic programme, carrying the same pastoral model from Kuching to Sibu. The school emphasises building aspiration among students from low-income backgrounds, many of whom would not otherwise have access to international-standard education.
Fees at Yayasan Sarawak International Secondary School Sibu
The income-based fee model is identical to the Kuching campus. The school fees guide provides context on how these rates compare to conventional international school pricing.
| Household Income | Annual Fee | Includes |
|---|---|---|
| B40 (below RM 4,850/month) | FREE | Tuition, textbooks, meals, boarding |
| M40 (RM 4,851 - RM 10,970) | RM 1,200 | Tuition, textbooks, meals |
| T20 (above RM 10,970) | RM 4,200 | Tuition, textbooks, meals |
The fully funded B40 model and heavily subsidised M40/T20 rates are financed by the Yayasan Sarawak foundation. Even at the T20 tier, RM 4,200 per year is less than 10% of what a typical international school charges.
