The British International School of Kuala Lumpur (BSKL) is a single-site Nord Anglia school at Bandar Utama in Petaling Jaya, Selangor. Founded in 2009, BSKL was described at the time as the first new British school to open in the Malaysian capital in over 50 years. The school serves around 1,200 students aged 2 to 18 from 63 nationalities, making it one of the larger British international schools in the Klang Valley. The Primary campus opened in 2009 and the Secondary campus was added on the same site in 2016, creating a single all-through school under one Head.

BSKL is owned by Nord Anglia Education, a premium international school group operating 80+ schools across 31 countries with around 70,000 students worldwide. The Nord Anglia membership delivers four distinct partnerships into BSKL’s curriculum: the MIT STEAM collaboration for interdisciplinary creativity and problem-solving, the Juilliard performing arts partnership for music, drama, and dance, the UNICEF Global Citizenship programme, and the Nord Anglia Global Campus, a virtual learning platform connecting Nord Anglia students worldwide. These collaborations are not available in non-Nord Anglia schools and form the school’s central differentiator.

The school holds COBIS Patron’s Accreditation (the highest tier of the Council of British International Schools), is a member of FOBISIA (Federation of British International Schools in Asia), and was graded “excellent” in all areas by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI). BSKL delivers the English National Curriculum from Pre-Nursery (age 2) through Year 13, with the Cambridge IGCSE at Years 10 to 11 and A-Levels at Sixth Form. The school is a Cambridge International Examinations centre and a Pearson Edexcel centre, giving students access to both major UK examination boards. Early Years follows the English Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), the statutory standard used by all British state and independent schools.

The school’s academic record is strong within the Nord Anglia Asia network. The 2022 cohort achieved a 100 percent A-Level pass rate with 68 percent of grades at A* or A, and 80 percent of IGCSE grades were at A* or A. BSKL was the best-performing Nord Anglia Asia school for A-Level results three consecutive years through 2022. One-off fees are RM 1,500 application (non-refundable, per application) and RM 18,000 enrolment (non-refundable, per family). The enrolment fee is charged once per family rather than per child, a distinctive structure that lowers the cost of admitting a second or third sibling. A portion of the enrolment fee may be returned with three or more months of written withdrawal notice. There is no published sibling discount on tuition. EAL support is charged separately at Years 1 to 11 (not Early Years). The 2026/27 fees have been published with a small uplift across all tiers; confirm current rates with admissions before enrolling.

Admissions at The British International School of Kuala Lumpur

BSKL admits students from age 2 (Pre-Nursery) through Sixth Form (Year 13). The school operates rolling admissions throughout the academic year, with the main intake aligned to the September start of the English National Curriculum calendar. Applications are submitted online with required documents including the child’s birth certificate, immunisation records, previous school reports for school-age children, and two passport-size photographs. The non-refundable RM 1,500 application fee is payable at the time of submission, with one application fee per child. Once a place is offered, families pay the RM 18,000 enrolment fee (per family, not per child) and the first-term tuition.

Pre-Nursery, Nursery, and Reception candidates attend a settling-in playdate at the campus. From Year 1 onwards, age-appropriate assessments evaluate readiness for the English National Curriculum stage. BSKL is at No 1 Changkat Bukit Utama, Bandar Utama, within Petaling Jaya, Selangor. The campus sits adjacent to 1 Utama shopping centre, approximately 10 minutes from the MRT Bandar Utama station and 25 to 30 minutes from the Damansara expatriate enclaves of Damansara Heights, Sri Hartamas, and Mont Kiara. Despite the “Kuala Lumpur” in the school name, the campus is physically in Petaling Jaya rather than the federal territory of KL itself; this is a naming convention common to international schools in the wider Klang Valley.

The school operates from a single site combining Primary and Secondary divisions, with the Secondary campus opened in 2016 alongside the original 2009 Primary campus. Facilities include dedicated Early Years classrooms, science laboratories, sports halls, an Olympic-pool-scale swimming pool, performing arts studios, and Nord Anglia STEAM Hub partnership spaces with MIT and Juilliard.
