INTI International University was established in 1986, starting as a college offering professional certification and pre-university programs. Over the following two decades it expanded its academic offerings and physical infrastructure, eventually receiving university college status and then full university recognition from the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education. Today INTI International University operates its main campus in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, about 60 kilometres south of Kuala Lumpur, on an 82-acre site that houses its full range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and professional programs.

INTI is part of the Laureate International Universities network, one of the largest private education groups in the world. Laureate operates affiliated universities and colleges across Latin America, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, and INTI’s membership in this network carries practical consequences for students: it creates credit transfer pathways to partner institutions in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and other Laureate countries. Facilities at INTI International University

The Nilai campus spans 82 acres and contains a mix of academic buildings, student services, and residential facilities set within a relatively open compound compared to urban campus universities. Teaching spaces include lecture halls, seminar rooms, and faculty-specific labs. The engineering faculty operates mechanical and electronics workshops, while the health sciences faculty uses simulation labs and clinical training facilities to prepare students for hospital and clinic placements.

The campus library is open seven days a week during term time and holds physical and digital collections across all disciplines. Sports facilities include courts for badminton, tennis, and basketball, a gymnasium, and outdoor recreational spaces across the wide campus grounds.

Student accommodation at Nilai is provided in on-campus residences, with INTI offering free accommodation to eligible students. This arrangement is notable among Malaysian private universities, where accommodation is usually a substantial separate cost. The Nilai campus residential setup also includes dining facilities, a convenience store, and communal areas.

Outside the campus, the Nilai township has grown into a mid-sized commercial centre with retail malls, food outlets, and a commuter rail connection. The KTM Nilai station connects the area to Kuala Lumpur Sentral in about 45 minutes by commuter train.

Admissions at INTI International University

INTI International University accepts applications for three main intakes each year, typically in January, May, and September, with some programs offering additional intake windows. The multiple intake structure is designed to accommodate students transitioning from different examination systems, including SPM, IGCSE, STPM, UEC, and A-Level.

Foundation applicants need a minimum of five credits in SPM or equivalent qualifications, including English and mathematics. Direct undergraduate entry requires A-Level, STPM, UEC, or diploma qualifications with minimum grade thresholds that vary by faculty. Engineering and health sciences programs have stricter prerequisites, particularly in mathematics, chemistry, and biology at the pre-university level.

International students must demonstrate English proficiency through IELTS, TOEFL, or an equivalent test. Minimum IELTS requirements range from 5.5 to 6.5 depending on the program. Students whose first language is English or who have studied in English-medium schools for a defined period may be exempt from language testing.

The Laureate network affiliation also opens a separate transfer admissions pathway. Students at other Laureate institutions globally can apply to continue their studies at INTI under defined credit transfer agreements, and INTI students can similarly transfer portions of their program to foreign Laureate partners.

INTI International University in Negeri Sembilan

INTI International University’s main campus is in Nilai, a town in the northern part of Negeri Sembilan about 60 kilometres south of Kuala Lumpur and 35 kilometres north of Seremban, the state capital. The town developed rapidly from the 1990s as housing and educational institutions expanded along the North-South Expressway corridor.

The KTM Komuter Nilai station is within reach of the campus and provides direct rail connections to Kuala Lumpur Sentral, with the journey taking approximately 45 minutes. The campus is also accessible by road via the North-South Expressway through the Nilai interchange. Kuala Lumpur International Airport is about 15 kilometres away, a proximity that benefits international students arriving by air.

INTI also operates branch college campuses in Subang Jaya, Penang, and Sabah, which serve students in those regions who prefer studying closer to home for their foundation or diploma years before transferring to Nilai for degree completion. This multi-campus model extends INTI’s geographic reach across Peninsular Malaysia and into East Malaysia.
