MAHSA University was established in 2004 under the name Malaysian Allied Health Sciences Academy, a name that captured its original mandate as a trainer of allied health professionals. The institution expanded its academic scope and program range through the following decade, eventually receiving full university status from the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education. MAHSA now operates from a 48-acre campus in Bandar Saujana Putra, Jenjarom, Selangor, and enrols over 10,000 students across more than 70 programs.

The university holds a SETARA Competitive rating from the Malaysian government and is ranked #577 in the QS Asia University Rankings. Its profile in health sciences education has made it a regular choice for students targeting clinical careers in medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy across Malaysia and among international applicants, particularly from Bangladesh, Indonesia, and the Middle East.

MAHSA’s governance and ownership have gone through several transitions since 2004, with the university eventually becoming associated with Berjaya Education Group. Programs at MAHSA University

MAHSA University offers over 70 programs across health sciences, clinical medicine, and business disciplines. The clinical programs remain the most sought-after and the most resource-intensive offerings.

The MBBS program is a five-year degree recognized by the Malaysian Medical Council. Students complete the first two years in pre-clinical sciences before transitioning to clinical rotations at teaching hospitals. MAHSA maintains clinical training affiliations at hospitals in the Klang Valley to support these placements.

The Faculty of Dentistry offers a five-year Bachelor of Dental Surgery program registered with the Malaysian Dental Council. Dentistry students train at the MAHSA Dental Clinic on campus, which is open to fee-paying patients and provides supervised clinical experience across all major dental disciplines.

Allied health programs include pharmacy, nursing, physiotherapy, medical imaging, occupational therapy, and nutrition and dietetics. These three-to-four-year degrees are accredited by the respective Malaysian professional bodies and feed graduates into the public and private healthcare systems. The pharmacy program is recognized by the Malaysian Pharmacy Board.

The Faculty of Business and Management offers degrees in accounting, business administration, finance, and marketing, targeting students who prefer a university environment with strong health sciences surroundings or who are accompanying family members pursuing clinical programs. Foundation and diploma programs in science and arts provide entry pathways for SPM leavers before they enter degree studies.

All fees are payable per semester and subject to revision each academic year. MAHSA accepts PTPTN loans for eligible Malaysian students. International students typically pay in full and may be required to pay a larger upfront deposit at enrolment.

Scholarship programs are available for outstanding SPM and pre-university applicants, covering up to 50% of tuition for academic merit awards. Clinical programs have separate scholarship criteria and lower coverage percentages due to the higher overall cost.

Facilities at MAHSA University

The 48-acre campus in Bandar Saujana Putra is purpose-built for a health sciences institution. The layout includes separate faculty buildings for medicine, dentistry, allied health, and business, along with centralized support facilities.

The MAHSA Dental Clinic on campus is a key facility for both student training and community dental care. It operates as a regulated clinical facility with treatment bays supervised by registered dental specialists. The clinic treats patients from surrounding communities at subsidized rates, making dental care accessible to Jenjarom residents while fulfilling the teaching mission of the Faculty of Dentistry.

Medical simulation labs support the pre-clinical phase of the MBBS program, giving students access to mannequins, anatomical models, and procedural trainers before they enter hospital wards. Pharmacy labs, physiotherapy gyms, and imaging suites are available for the respective allied health programs.

General campus facilities include lecture theatres, seminar rooms, a library with digital database access, a student centre, cafeteria, and sports courts. On-campus student accommodation is available, which is particularly relevant given the campus’s location in Jenjarom, an area with fewer off-campus housing options compared to urban university locations.

Admissions at MAHSA University

MAHSA University runs intakes three times per year: in January, May, and September. Not all programs are available at each intake, and clinical programs typically offer fewer entry windows.

Entry into the MBBS program requires strong SPM or pre-university results with passes in physics, chemistry, and biology. Applicants typically present A-Level, STPM, or foundation in science results with specific grade thresholds set by the Faculty of Medicine. MAHSA’s own Foundation in Science program is available for SPM leavers who need to meet these grade requirements before applying.

Dentistry and pharmacy programs have similar science prerequisites. Allied health programs are slightly more accessible in terms of grade requirements, with diploma holders able to enter at an advanced stage in some programs. Business programs accept a wider range of qualifications including arts-stream SPM results.

International students must provide IELTS results of at least 5.5 to 6.0 depending on the program. MAHSA has active recruitment in several South and Southeast Asian countries, and international students make up a notable portion of the MBBS and dentistry cohorts.

MAHSA University in Selangor

MAHSA University is in Bandar Saujana Putra, within the Kuala Langat district of Selangor. The area is southwest of Kuala Lumpur, approximately 35 to 45 minutes by road depending on traffic. The campus is accessible via the ELITE Highway and Federal Route 5, though private transport is the most practical option for most students given the limited public transport in the Jenjarom area.

The Bandar Saujana Putra township surrounding the campus is a planned residential development with some commercial amenities. Students typically rely on the campus cafeteria and nearby commercial lots for daily needs, or travel to larger commercial areas in Klang and Banting.

Students who completed secondary schooling at private schools in Selangor or international schools in Selangor pursuing medicine or dentistry often consider MAHSA University alongside other clinical programs in the Klang Valley.
