SEGi University traces its history to 1977, making it one of Malaysia’s older private higher education institutions. The institution began as Systematic College before expanding through several decades of growth and regulatory changes, eventually receiving full university status. Today the university operates from its main campus in Kota Damansara, Selangor, alongside a network of SEGi College campuses spread across the country.

The university is ranked #731-740 in the QS World University Rankings 2026 and holds a QS 5 Star Plus rating, which covers areas such as teaching, employability, facilities, and social responsibility. Total costs for a three-year business or IT degree fall in the range of RM 45,000 to RM 55,000. For five-year clinical programs such as dentistry, total program costs can reach RM 220,000 to RM 250,000. Fees are charged per semester and are subject to annual revision.

SEGi offers scholarship and bursary programs for high-achieving SPM and pre-university students, with awards typically covering between 10% and 50% of tuition. The university also accepts PTPTN loans, and some programs are eligible for HRD Corp funding for sponsored working adults.

Facilities at SEGi University

Admissions at SEGi University

SEGi University runs multiple intakes per year, typically in January, May, and September for most programs. Clinical programs such as dentistry and pharmacy may have fewer entry windows.

Undergraduate entry requirements depend on the program. For business, IT, and social science programs, applicants need STPM, A-Level, or foundation results with passing grades in relevant subjects. Engineering programs require credits in mathematics and physics. Clinical programs have stricter entry thresholds, including minimum grades in chemistry and biology for pharmacy and dentistry.

International students must meet English proficiency requirements, with IELTS scores typically ranging from 5.5 to 6.0 depending on the program. The university accepts MUET, IELTS, and TOEFL as evidence of language ability. Application is handled through the SEGi online portal or through authorized agent networks.

For SPM leavers, SEGi’s own foundation programs provide a direct entry route into degree studies without requiring STPM or A-Level qualifications. The foundation-to-degree pathway is the most common entry route for Malaysian students.

SEGi University is located in Kota Damansara, a township in Petaling Jaya, Selangor. The area is part of the larger Petaling Jaya urban zone, well connected to central Kuala Lumpur and the broader Klang Valley by road and rail.

The nearest public transport point is Kota Damansara MRT station on the Putrajaya Line, which connects to the KL city centre in under 30 minutes. By road, the Damansara-Puchong Expressway and SPRINT Highway provide access from Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam, and Kuala Lumpur. The township itself has retail malls, food outlets, and a developing commercial core, giving students access to daily necessities close to campus.
