Taylor’s University traces its origins to 1969, when it was established as a private college by George Archibald Taylor and his son George Leighton Taylor. The institution earned university college status in 2006 and received full university recognition from the Malaysian government in September 2010. Over five decades, Taylor’s has grown from a single-campus college into one of Southeast Asia’s most recognized private universities, now serving between 15,000 and 19,999 students from more than 80 countries.

The university’s standing in global rankings reflects that growth. Taylor’s University holds the #253 position in the QS World University Rankings 2026, placing it within the top 1% of universities worldwide. In the QS Asia University Rankings 2025, Taylor’s is ranked #36, and it maintains the #1 spot among private universities in Southeast Asia. The university has earned particular recognition in hospitality and leisure management, where it ranks among the top 20 globally.

Taylor’s University operates under the Taylor’s Education Group, one of the largest private education providers in Malaysia. The group also runs Taylor’s College (a separate institution offering pre-university and diploma programs), giving the university a built-in feeder pathway that channels foundation and diploma graduates directly into degree programs.

School of Medicine offers the MBBS program (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery), a five-year degree that includes clinical placements at affiliated hospitals. School of Pharmacy runs an MPharm program accredited by the Malaysian Pharmacy Board.

School of Engineering covers chemical, electrical, and mechanical engineering, while School of Computer Science offers programs in software engineering, data science, and cybersecurity. School of Architecture, Building and Design provides architecture, interior architecture, and quantity surveying degrees.

The university is well known for School of Hospitality, Tourism and Events and Taylor’s Culinary Institute, both benefiting from the university’s global ranking in hospitality education. Other schools include Biosciences, Law and Governance, Media and Communications, Education, Design, and Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Taylor’s University offers several scholarship categories. The Excellence Award provides up to RM 15,000 per year for high-achieving students. Merit Scholarships cover up to 70% of tuition, while Sports and Community Scholarships can reach 100% coverage. Research Excellence Scholarships support postgraduate students at the master’s and doctoral levels with up to full tuition waivers. ASEAN Tourism Scholarships offer 100% coverage for postgraduate programs in hospitality-related fields.

All fees are subject to annual increases tied to inflation and operational costs. The university charges fees per semester, and the total cost varies depending on credit hours and elective modules selected.

Facilities at Taylor’s University

The Lakeside Campus in Subang Jaya spans 27 acres of landscaped grounds centred around a 5.5-acre man-made lake. Completed in January 2010 at a cost of RM 450 million, the campus houses all of the university’s teaching, research, and residential facilities on one site.

Academic facilities include the VORTEX Extended Reality Lab for immersive learning, a Makerspace for prototyping and engineering projects, and dedicated labs for each faculty including medical simulation rooms, culinary training kitchens, and architecture studios. The campus features a multi-level library, lecture theatres of various sizes, and computer labs throughout every school building.

Student life infrastructure includes a gymnasium, swimming pool, sports courts, and an on-campus retail mall with food and beverage outlets. U Residence, the university’s on-campus accommodation, provides 890 beds across 126 apartment units and 116 en-suite rooms. The residence includes 24-hour security, housekeeping services, recreational areas, and dedicated study spaces.

The campus received a Special Honour Award from the Institute of Landscape Architects Malaysia in 2011 for its integration of built environment and natural surroundings.

Admissions at Taylor’s University

Taylor’s University runs three main intake periods each year: February, April, and September. Some programs accept applications on a rolling basis outside these windows.

Entry requirements vary by program level. Foundation applicants need a minimum of five credits in SPM or equivalent O-Level qualifications. Undergraduate applicants require STPM, A-Level, or foundation/diploma qualifications, with specific grade thresholds depending on the program. Engineering and medical programs have higher entry requirements, including specific passes in mathematics and sciences. Postgraduate applicants need a related bachelor’s degree, and some professional master’s programs require work experience.

International students must demonstrate English proficiency through IELTS (minimum 5.0-6.5 depending on program), TOEFL, or equivalent tests. The university reports an acceptance rate of approximately 74.6%.

Taylor’s University in Selangor

Taylor’s University is located in Subang Jaya, one of Selangor’s most accessible and well-connected cities. The Lakeside Campus is approximately 30 minutes from central Kuala Lumpur by car and is reachable via major highways including the Federal Route 2 (Federal Highway) and the New Pantai Expressway.

Public transport access includes the BRT Sunway line and nearby KTM Komuter and LRT stations. Subang Jaya itself is a mature township with shopping centres, healthcare facilities, and a large resident expatriate community. The surrounding area hosts several other private higher education institutions, making it one of Malaysia’s densest education clusters.
