IGCSE Schools in Malaysia by State
A geographic index of 217 Cambridge IGCSE schools across 14 Malaysian states. Pick a state to see the full list with fees, addresses, and curriculum notes.
Most IGCSE schools in Malaysia cluster in the Klang Valley, which together hosts more than half of every Cambridge-registered campus in the country. Selangor and Kuala Lumpur dominate by school count, fee tier, and student volume. Outside the Klang Valley, Penang, Johor, and Sarawak each support a meaningful IGCSE market. The remaining nine states with at least one IGCSE-registered school give families in Pahang, Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Sabah, Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, and Perlis a local option without relocating.
The table below shows the IGCSE school count by state, fee tier range, and notable campuses. Click any state to open the full directory page with school names, addresses, and individual fee data. Klang Valley IGCSE deep-dive: Kuala Lumpur and Selangor
Around 60 percent of every IGCSE school in Malaysia sits inside the Klang Valley, the urban belt covering Kuala Lumpur, Selangor's Petaling, Klang, and Hulu Langat districts, and Putrajaya. Within this belt, the IGCSE market splits into three distinct clusters by geography and fee tier.
Mont Kiara and Sri Hartamas form the elite cluster. Garden International School, Mont'Kiara International School, and the International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL) all sit within four kilometres of each other, charging RM 70,000 to RM 130,000 per year at IGCSE level. Most students walk or take a short shuttle from the surrounding expatriate condominium estates.
Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya, and Shah Alam form the mid-tier and family belt. Sri KDU International School, Taylor's International School (Cheras), Alice Smith School, and Tenby Setia Eco Park serve middle-class Malaysian and Asian-expatriate families at RM 35,000 to RM 80,000 per year. Subang and Petaling Jaya hold the densest cluster of IGCSE schools per square kilometre in Malaysia, with seven Cambridge-registered campuses inside Petaling district alone.
Cheras, Ampang, and Cyberjaya form the budget-to-mid belt with the King Henry VIII College pathway. Cempaka Damansara Heights, Sekolah Menengah Sri Cempaka Cheras, and King Henry VIII College Cyberjaya serve the southern Klang Valley at RM 18,000 to RM 55,000 per year. Cheras in particular has gained density since 2020 thanks to the UCSI schools network and the Taylor's Cheras campus.
Penang IGCSE: the northern alternative to the Klang Valley
Penang is the second-largest IGCSE market by school count outside the Klang Valley. The Bayan Lepas free trade zone produced a wave of expatriate-led IGCSE schools, including Fairview Bayan Lepas and the longer-established Uplands. Straits International School Penang charges RM 25,000 to RM 35,000 per year, well below the Klang Valley equivalents, while Tenby Tanjung Bungah occupies the mid-tier at around RM 30,000 to RM 50,000. For a full Penang directory with addresses, see the IGCSE in Penang page.
Johor IGCSE: the cross-border Singapore pipeline
Johor's IGCSE market is unusual because a sizeable share of its students cross the causeway daily from Singapore. Marlborough College Malaysia in Iskandar Puteri runs IGCSE at the upper end (RM 85,000 to RM 100,000 per year), Stellar International School offers some of Malaysia's cheapest IGCSE places at RM 20,000 to RM 23,760, and Sekolah Menengah Seri Tenby Setia Eco Gardens sits between the two. For the cross-border angle, see the cross-border Johor-Singapore schools guide.

Frequently asked questions
Which state in Malaysia has the most IGCSE schools?
Selangor and Kuala Lumpur together host the largest concentration of IGCSE schools in Malaysia. Outside the Klang Valley, Penang, Johor, and Sarawak are the next-largest IGCSE markets. Smaller states such as Kedah, Negeri Sembilan, and Sabah each have between 3 and 8 IGCSE-registered schools. The full count across all 14 represented states is 217 schools.
Are IGCSE schools in Kuala Lumpur more expensive than in other states?
Yes, on average. Kuala Lumpur IGCSE fees range from around RM 22,000 at Beaconhouse Newlands to RM 120,025 at British School Kuala Lumpur, with a median near RM 55,000. Selangor sits in a similar band thanks to Sri KDU, Tenby, Alice Smith, and Garden International School. Penang and Johor offer more affordable IGCSE pathways, with Straits International School Penang at RM 25,000–35,000 and Stellar International School in Iskandar Puteri at RM 20,000–23,760 per year.
Can a student from Sabah or Sarawak take IGCSE without boarding?
Yes. Kuching has Tunku Putra-HELP International School and St Joseph's International School Kuching offering day-school IGCSE, and Kota Kinabalu has several IGCSE-registered international schools. Sabah and Sarawak together hold around 15 IGCSE schools, so day attendance is realistic for families based in Kuching, Miri, Kota Kinabalu, or Sandakan. Boarding is offered at Tenby, Marlborough College, and Epsom College but is not required for IGCSE access in East Malaysia.
How do I find an IGCSE school close to where I live?
Start with your state page (linked from the table above), then narrow by city and distance. The state-by-state index on this page lists every Malaysian state with at least three IGCSE schools, and each link leads to a city-level list with addresses, fees, and the school's contact details. For Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, the Klang Valley deep-dive section below maps out the cluster by district.
Do all IGCSE schools in Malaysia accept Malaysian citizens?
Yes. Since the Ministry of Education removed the foreign-student quota in 2012, all licensed international and private schools offering IGCSE in Malaysia accept Malaysian students without restriction. Schools that historically labelled themselves 'international' (such as ISKL, Mont'Kiara International, Alice Smith, and Nexus) now admit Malaysians on the same terms as expatriate students.
